Sooooooooooo Big! (Part V)

Week 30 officially started today. That means there are just 70 days to go. My, how time flies!

Lotsa growing has been going on in the last two weeks. Since last we spoke of her size (a mere two weeks ago) TNH has grown from 13 inches long to about 15.5 inches, and she has probably gained a full pound, tipping the scales now at 3.25 pounds. She is still very active but her size now has her pretty cramped for space. Her kicks are ever more vigorous and because of her confinement they will land in pretty much the same place time after time. She spends more time sleeping now that waking and even enjoys periods of deep REM sleep. Her heartbeat is still in the 120 - 160 bpm range. Her eyes are open and her pupils can now dilate and contract in response to light. Her body has begun storing iron (to make hemoglobin,) phosphorous (a component of DNA and RNA and essential element for all living cells,) and calcium (strong teeth and bones.) She has taste buds now but we're not sure yet if she has developed a taste for Hooter's Buffalo Chicken Strips and Sala Thai's Pad Garlic. In preparation for respiration after birth, she will mimic breathing movements by repeatedly moving her diaphragm. This can often result in the hiccups! Her still-developing immune system has gained substantial strength over the past few weeks getting her ready to face our disease-ridden world o’ wonders. Her head is still very soft because her skull bones have not yet fused together. This “softness” allows for a much smoother passage through the birth canal and could hang around for up to one year after birth.

That's all we have on the subject this time. In just two weeks we go in for the next ultrasound so we'll have some exact measurements for you.
