Grant's Farm

Today I had to run to Grant's Farm to pick up the student lunch vouchers for my upcoming class field trip. It was such a beautiful day that I decided Mady and I would go early and spend the day there. I guess on our field trip rounds last summer we missed Grant's Farm because Mady couldn't remember being there. She was so excited and loved riding the tram. We saw 4 baby buffaloes and the deer were also exciting.

When we arrived at the goat feeding station we were ready or so we thought. Being that it was 9am the goats were pretty hungry and after the all jumped on us we headed outside to feed them through the fence. Mady got the biggest kick out of this and couldn't stop smiling! We then had to stop and ride the carousel, feed the chickens and check out the lemurs. We made it for the animal encounters show and Mady never took her eyes away. She was giggling and clapping and LOVED the rat race! We headed over to the elephant show and she got picked to be a helper. She had box number three and when it was her turn she got to go down by the elephant and open her box. Inside her box was toothpaste and she got a free ice cream cone for helping.

After the elephant show we went to feed the llama and he was more than happy to take the food and when Mady was looking at something he blew right in her ear. She thought that was the greatest thing! We had a snow cone and then headed to see the Clydesdales before heading home. Mady and I very rarely go on "field trips" alone but we had the best time:)

Family Reunion

Every year we make our weekend trip to Kinmundy, IL for the McCarty family reunion. We get to visit with a lot of extended family that we only see this one time each year. Mady's favorite part of the trip is swimming in the hotel pool. This year she was actually tall enough to touch the shallow end! Why can't more pools have a 3 foot shallow end. In the evening we head to our cousin's beautiful winery for a bonfire. Mady loves to run up and down the rows of the vineyard and play with her cousin Hannah. Mady lasted at the party until about 9 when she feel asleep on my lap in front of the fire. It won't be long before she can hang with the big kids until the wee morning hours.

Soccer

By Mady's request we signed her up to play soccer again. This is the first time she goes with a coach and actually scrimmages against other kids. She seems to really like it but does get a little discouraged when she can't get the ball. The first night of practice she had to run off the field to tell us that another little girl used her hands and she was so concerned. The first game my dad got a hilarious video of her playing with her shadow for about the first half of the game. When she gets into the game she is actually pretty good and we are hoping that she continues to like it as it seems a great sport to use up some of the enormous energy our girl seems to have.
