Picture Of The Day - March 29

Momma, Maddy and Nola had lunch with me at work today. Maddy pretty much slept the entire time, but she did finally get to meet the Swearingen family. Momma and me had chicken wings from Cat & the Fiddle. Nola chased a headcover around the clubhouse and then chased her tennis ball down the first fairway. I thought I got out of shape over the winter, Nola crashed after only about 12 fetches where she used to be good for more throws than I could make. See her zonked out with her tongue hanging out?

But you didn't come here to see pictures of me did you? Here's Maddy shaking her fist at the camera

Big yawn

And yet another expression we can't figure out

Still more bathtime fun!

'Nuff said:

This one goes out to all the proud grandparents.

I snapped a picture of Madylin in Momma’s arms that makes me misty-eyed every time I see it. It’s the wallpaper on both of our computers, but that just wasn’t enough, we wanted to show it off a little more. You know the one:

So we decided to see what else we could put that picture so more people could savor the cuteness. So we set up a Cafepress store.

The obvious choice for me was a coffee mug.

Click here to see Maddy's mug

If coffee isn’t your thing, perhaps a mousepad for your office would interest you.

We figured we'd better share these with the grandparents cause we know they like to show her off too. There are about a hundred things you can put a picture on, any picture on, so if you’d like a shirt, hat, etc. let us know and we'll see what we can do for you. The product list is HERE

And this last note goes out to Roger and Shirley. What the heck was up with Jambalaya's hair tonight?!

Picture Of The Day - March 22

Momma, Maddy and me had lunch with the girls Momma works with. Many of them were seeing Miss Maddy for the first time. Clockwise from Momma we have Babs, Gail, Cindy, Connie, Eileen, Crystal, and Becky (holding Maddy.)

When we got home Great Grandma Helen was waiting for some Maddy time.

After that visit and a feeding we got all dressed up to go out for a walk

Then we rigged Daddy up in the Snugli and took Maddy and Nola for a stroll

Even though she slept pretty much the entire walk she was so worn out that she needed a nap as soon as we got home

Picture Of The Day - March 21

And not just pictures this time, words too!

As you can well imagine it has been a busy couple of weeks here at Horvath House.

Since Maddy came home this weblog has pretty well been reduced to being a picture and video drop as our time has really not been our own. Between learning to be parents, trying to establish a routine, catching up on all the housework that we are almost always behind on, remembering not to neglect our pets, and entertaining close to a hundred visitors, we’ve not had a whole lot of down time.

As of this writing I’d have to say that things are going great. Maddy is already an old pro at breastfeeding if you don’t count the occasional nap at the dinner table! The lactation nurse told us that if she is eating properly she should poop at least 3 times a day. She’s usually well ahead of that figure by noon. When we checked out of the hospital she weighed in at 7 pounds and 7 ounces and as of Monday she weighed 9 pounds so she’s definitely doing well. She had her first bottle feeding yesterday, we offered three ounces, she drank up every single drop and didn’t seem to be at all confused when it wasn’t offered again later. Here’s a picture of Daddy’s turn for some dinnertime bonding.

Maddy is thus far a very happy baby. Her fussing fits are few and far between and most are easily remedied by feeding, rocking, or burping her. She can be a little gassy at times, but most times she’s a lot gassy! She has slept very well through the night from the very first night at home. In fact sometimes she sleeps a little too well. She is supposed to feed every two to three hours, but when Momma is asleep, and thus not toiling and worrying over her, she goes three easily, even four and five hours at a time. We typically feed her at about 9:00 p.m. and we all go to sleep when she’s done at around 9:45. Daddy sleeps like a dead rock so he oftentimes doesn’t even stir when Maddy eats around 1:00 a.m. unless Momma needs help or elbows him to quiet the supposed snoring. I swear it’s the dog, not me! I like to tell people that I haven’t slept so good in ages since I am now going to bed a little earlier and still getting up at about the same time as always, the 5:00 a.m. feeding.

The pets are simply wonderful with Maddy. The cats were curious at first, but never afraid or aggressive. It helps that she doesn’t really do anything other than eat, sleep, and poop. No fast, menacing movements or loud noises make for happy cats! By the time Maddy is two and is nothing but fast, menacing movements and loud noises they’ll be so used to her they won’t even be fazed. We feared one or more of them would climb in the cradle with her to ‘snuggle.’ I put snuggle in quotes because none of them really know how to snuggle. Cleo ‘snuggles’ by sleeping on your belly, Caesar ‘snuggles’ by taking up as much of the middle of the bed as possible then steadfastly refusing to move, and Chi ‘snuggles’ by putting his face as close to your face as absolutely possible then kneading your cheek or nose or throat. But, so far so good, they’ve all given her plenty of space. The crib may be another story since it’s so roomy, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. Nola is pretty much same old same old. She likes to watch over Maddy when she’s in the swing and when she’s not, Nola like to wash Maddy’s face, head and hands with her tongue. She has a bit of the blues because her fetch time has suffered of late, but once Momma is able, she’ll take Maddy and Nola for daily walks and she’ll be back to her ridiculously happy self. Now, if only we could get her to realize just how dangerous a weapon her tail can be!

So, all in all, things are going swimmingly. Thanks for asking!

Here's two more pictures for you

Haircut today!

No, not for Maddy. For Daddy. But Maddy did get to ride along and meet her future hair stylist:

Had a bit of a mid-day bout of the fussies (it didn't help that Mommy and Daddy kept posing her for pictures and blinding her with that flash bulb) and the best way to soothe her is by putting her in the burping position where she usually drops off to sleep.

All that modeling sure does make a girl tired!

13 days old today. Went to see the pediatrician and got a clean bill of health. Weight going up, jaundice going down, umbilical cord gone! We gained 1 pound and 9 ounces since leaving the hospital. That's almost two ounces a day!

Miss Maddy had a bit of a hissy fit this evening and Daddy had to try to calm her down

More Videos

Here she is getting her second APGAR score (a perfect 10 by the way!)

APGAR stands for Activity (muscle tone), Pulse (heart rate), Grimace (reflex response), Appearance (color), and Respiration (breathing). She got a test at one minute old and scored a nine, this is the test at 5 minutes old.

Here she is getting weighed and examined

Counting fingers and toes (10 each), checking lungs (can't you tell they're working?!) etc.

Maddy's first bath

The video starts out outside the nursery while we waited for Maddy's temperature to rise a bit. I figured we could use a little more footage of her crying! We don't get to see the shampoo, it's done where the camera won't go, but we do get to see Maddy's first style!

Maddy's got the hiccups

She was so cute we had to capture it for posterity!

Movie Night!

Click Here to see video footage of the first 9 screeching minutes of Maddy's life.

It's raw unedited video and it looks much better if you view it at original size (see the down arrow in the bottom right corner of the 'black box' viewing window.

I'll be uploading little tidbits all night ISP willing.

We Didn't Forget

We just haven't had the time. I don't know how Laura V.B. did it, blogging when baby comes home that is. Between visitors, trips to the lab for Maddy's blood tests (she's still got a touch of jaundice), and trips to the hospital to visit Stacie, Andy and Logan (finally!) we've hardly had time to feed ourselves much less get any blogging done.

We'll catch up, we swear! We have added some pics to the album and are trying to get some raw video uploaded but our internet service has been a bit wonky and it just won't happen for us. Hold tight, we're doing the best we can.

Here's some of Daddy's favorite pics to hold you over.

There haven't been many chances to get a look at her eyes, here's the best yet:

Sleeping in the car seat in the sun:

If you look REALLY close you can see milk running out of her mouth on her left (your right) 'cause she gorged at dinner just like her Daddy does!

It's a Mad Mad Mad Maddy's World!

In case you haven't heard, Madylin Brooke Horvath was born on March 6, 2007 at 1:26 a.m. after less than 1 hour of labor.

We made it home Thursday night about 6:30. Fed, slept, fed, slept, fed and fed some more. A wonderful night was had by all, Maddy, Momma, and me all slept 6 hours.

Yes six hours of sleep around three feedings!

We have a busy day today. Maddy has to get a blood test then meet her Great Grandpa Horvath, then its back home for some housekeeping and final preparations for bringing home baby. Seeing as we went to the doctor Monday to get a topical for a rash and walked out four days later with Maddy we are a bit under-prepared.

Our critters were wonderfully well behaved on their first meeting and all through the first night.

That's all we're gonna report now. We have tons of pics to put in the album, we have lots of video to upload, we have lots of stories to tell. We just don't have the time right now. Here's a few to tide you over

FYI: Stacie is probably in labor as I type this so everybody please say a little prayer for her and Andy and Logan.
